Microwave Safe Plastics

Have you ever wondered what types of plastics are safe to use in the microwave? Today is your lucky day, because we have a guide for you! On plastic products, they list the type of plastic it is, there is plastic types #1-#7. Here's a list of the safe ones, and what they commonly are used for!


Microwave Safe:

#2 (High-Density Polyethylene)

Commonly used for milk jugs and shampoo/conditioner bottles.

#4 (Low-density polyethylene)

Mostly used for grocery bags, thin waterproof lining, and occasionally some packaging material

#5 (Polypropylene)

Commonly used for plastic cups, yogurt cups, and plastic containers.


Microwave Sparingly:

#1 (Polyethylene Terephthalate)

Commonly used for soda and water bottles.

#7 (Polycarbonate)

Commonly used for electrical wiring, DVD cases, and baby bottles


Unsafe for Microwave:

#3 (Polyvinyl Chloride)

Commonly used for cling wrap, pvc, and curtains.

#6 (Polystyrene)

Commonly used for disposable silverware, egg cartons, and foam cups.
